Event: 12th Johor Bahru (JB) Arts Festival 2015 (Media Preview)

JB Arts Festival is B A C K! The 12th Johor Bahru Arts Festival 2015 which was founded in 2004, is one of the longest-running arts festival in the country. Look out for music, short sketches, local films and more at this colourful and exciting event this 10th September - 10th October 2015! I myself make it a point to attend at least one show every year.

It all started when a bunch of friends decided to get together and have some fun as they were getting really, really bored in JB. They called themselves the Friends of the Arts (F-Arts)heh and what started out as meetings between friends gradually became concerts for Johoreans who are also looking for excitement. Since their inception, JB Arts Fest has hosted internationally-acclaimed performers and undiscovered local talents. The soul of an city lies with the people and while there was a month-long event for JB-rians to look out for each year, what about the other 11 months?

This is where the Johor Bahru: International Festival City came in. This is the first year that JB:IFC is formed and they are already taking over Johor Bahru by storm. Their aim is to give the people of JB a focused yet inclusive selection of entertainment, arts and cultural events. This year alone, JB: IFC has organised the JB Jazz Festival, JB Classical Music Festival, JB Film Festival and coming soon, the JB Indigenous Arts Fair & JB Food Festival (looking forward to that!)

The media preview was held in Magnum Sports Cafe at Puteri Harbour for members of the media to get a sneak peak of what to expect this year as well as mingle around. This year, JB Arts Fest is expecting a bigger and better crowd as the acts are getting more varied, and increasingly exciting. This year's highlights include acts like Najwa Mahiaddin, Kyoto Protocol, Mezzotono, MACC, Hossan Leong & many more! Unlike the previous years, the month-long event will be held at Nusajaya this year. You can find most of the acts at Mall of Medini or MAP Nusajaya. You can get an idea of what acts to expect by downloading the JB Arts Fest booklet HERE.

I think it's time to stop complaining about being bored in JB and find something to do! This is the perfect opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and perhaps go for one or two shows. Entrance is free for most of the acts, so you have no excuse. This event is something truly unique to JB and we should celebrate it. Even if you're not a classical music kinda person or what not, just attend the shows. Who knows, you might find something that you really like :D

Don't forget to share on social media platforms if you're at one of the shows with the official hashtags #JBIFC and #JBAF2015. Spread the word and get your friends to join in the 12th JB Arts Festival 2015!
