Hair: Balayage Purple Ombre Hair with The Muse Hair & Scalp Specialist! [Part 1]

Surprise! This is by far the most daring hair colour that I've had! Although it was short-lived, looking at this photo makes me miss my lavendar purple hair again. After having coloured hair for about 5 years, this was also the first time that I bleached my hair! Here's a short recap of the my purple balayage ombre hair journey - how I went from brown-haired plain Jane to this wild-haired girl :D

It's all thanks to The Muse Hair & Scalp Specialist that helped me step out of my comfort zone and make a big change. FYI, The Muse Hair Salon is located at Neo Damansara and it's quite easy to locate on Waze or GPS. The first thing you will see when you drive past is actually the back part of the shop (top photo), to get to the main entrance, you'll actually have to go up the stairs to the other side where all the shops are facing.

The Muse Hair & Scalp Specialist was established in 2009 and have just recently celebrated their 6th Anniversary! The team consists of multi-talented & award-winning stylists who have trained overseas to keep ahead with the latest hair trends. Their specialty? Balayage and Ombre hair colouring, which was what I did! They also provide their signature scalp & GK Keratin treatments using L'Oreal Professional products. Besides that, they also provide make-up services by a professional makeup artist as well as embroidery services for the eyebrows, eyeliner and lips. The Muse's commitment is to provide the best customer service to bring out their best of each individual, ensuring you leave with a smile after each visit!

The overall environment in the salon is very clean, spacious and comfortable as its filled with natural sunlight. I realised that unlike most salons, they do not play much music in the place. I don't know about you, but I prefer it to be quiet that way instead of hearing the same songs over and over again on repeat when you're doing your hair. :p

The first thing my hairstylist Ken did was to wash my hair before sitting me down to discuss what hairstyle I wanted to achieve. I liked how he explained each procedure in technical terms that are easy to understand and he really put effort into making sure I was comfortable with the hair colour I was getting.  Since it was my first time bleaching (or, pre-lightening) my hair, Ken did explain to me in detail how pre-lightening will work, how and why each hair colour lasts as long as they do and how to care for my hair colour according to my hair type. Didn't know there were so many types of ombre styles! I explained that I've wanted to try purple hair for awhile now and since the balayage technique is trending now, we will do an ombre highlight that flows gradually in a natural way. I got a hair trim too to make the colours stand out more. Once we got all that out of the way, it was time to change my hair colour!

Here's the bleach/ pre-lightening formula that he will be putting in my hair. I'm excited, gonna be (partially) blonde for the first time in my life! FYI, I'll only be doing one layer of pre-lightening so that the dark purple colour shows up more on the blonde hair base. If I were to do a few more layers of pre-lightening, my hair's base will become grey or platinum and the purple colour will show up paler. This is how those people with pastel coloured hair gets their crazy colours, by bleaching the hair several times. I know it's bad for the hair but I'd love to try that too. Though, let's not get too crazy on my first time yea? :p

After the hairstylist applied the pre-lightening solution on my hair, he has to wrap up each part with tin foil so as to avoid the solution getting on my skin or other parts of my hair. Unlike normal hair dyeing, the hairstylist has to know EXACTLY where he wants to bleach the hair. Strategic planning is needed to achieve the ultimate natural gradation so Ken was very, very careful and professional about it all. My fringe was bleached a little too so that it flows naturally with the rest of my hair.

After about an hour, I got my hair washed and here's how I'll look if I was blonde LOL. Well, not exactly pure blonde, more like copper-ish hair? I sent a photo to my family group chat and my dad said, 'Yucks!' HAHAHAH guess that means I won't be going blonde anytime soon XD

If you noticed, there are some red parts in my hair tips because of the previous red hair dyes that I did. I'm surprised it lasted that long! Hopefully this means that my purple hair will last long too because our hair pigments are more susceptible to retaining red-based pigments.

Well, that was short-lived. After blow-drying my hair, it was time for the actual purple dye! I thought the stylist would be using a concoction of colours like black or dark brown for the top part of my hair, but Ken only used the same purple dye throughout. Which is why pre-lightening is so important because that's the secret to getting the ombre effect, not the colour combination.

I think I got my hair washed for about 3 times within 4 hours haha. So excited waiting for the end results! While waiting, I did my work on my iPad (thank goodness they have WiFi!) and enjoyed a cup of hot tea that they served me.

And here's the end results, guys!! Before & After. From frizzy, boring brown to balayage lavendar purple! Admittedly, it was a little brighter than I expected, but still ok when indoors. When my hair is straight as it usually is, this is how the purple ombre looks like. Very natural yet fun, like anime hair!

Because I have a wedding dinner to attend that night, Ken styled my hair a little after the blow-drying. Curling also helps to make the ombre stand out more, especially the inner part.

Tadaa! I wish I woke up with pretty hair like this everyday. Love how the colours blend together and catch light to show different textures. I'm in love <3 I'm glad the pre-lightening did not dry out my hair too much cos I've had friends come up to me to say that my hair still looks surprisingly healthy even after bleaching. FYI, for my hair's length, this colour will cost about RM400 - RM500 in total.

However, I should warn you that crazy hair colours like these don't usually last long because we were not born to have crazy colours like these :( So Ken warned me that my hair colour will fade depending on how I take care of it. The good thing is though, I get to experience a different hair colour every other day! Well, it's been 2 months now and I honestly miss this hair colour. Wish I had taken more photos! I went back to Muse Hair Salon for a touch-up last week and do watch out for my new hair colour & hair treatment post!
