Guys.. I really do miss traveling.. Don't you? Last year when we entered the CMCO period, I was telling people how lucky we are to be able to live in Malaysia where we are able to at least travel locally, but it seems like this will not happen in the next few months already (and I still have credits pending for flights and hotels ><). The pandemic has really caused a lot of things to come to a halt or be put on hold.. I live in Johor Bahru and now we can't even cross the Causeway bridge to go over to Singapore!
I can't believe it's been exactly one year since I took this photo at Changi Airport! It was the last time my family and I travelled overseas to Bali in Jan 2020. How time flies, wonder when we can get on a plane again?
To fuel my wanderlust, I have been browsing travel sites like Traveloka while I reminisce about where to go once the borders are opened. I think the most attainable (and nearest) at the moment would be to go for a Staycation Singapore! I rarely stay overnight in Singapore as it's usually just day trips for work or leisure. My plan is to book a posh hotel in Singapore and just spend the day doing touristy things. Here are some places that you should definitely check out if you're in Singapore!
1. Jewel Changi Airport
This was in 2019 when the iconic Jewel entertainment and retail complex just opened in Changi Airport. You can shop, dine and even play here. Love the Singapore airport, it's so elaborate and extra that you can spend the whole day there even if you're not taking a flight 😆
2. Gardens by the Bay
I was there in November 2018 with a friend to check out the Christmas display in the Flower Dome, Cloud Forest with its impressive indoor waterfall and walk the OCBC Skyway. In fact, I think my friend and I got our entrance tickets from Traveloka at a great rate! It was really unique to see this futuristic garden concept within the bustling city. Gardens by the Bay is just next to Marina Bay Sands, so that's two places you can check out at one go. Definitely worth dropping by!
3. The Merlion and Marina Bay Sands
A trip to Singapore is not complete without a visit to the Merlion (part lion, part mermaid) statue and the Marina Bay Sands hotel cum casino cum mall. I have been to MBS several times but this was my first time at the Merlion in 2019. Even though it was at night (we had a work engagement in the day), it was still pretty impressive to see the projected displays on the Merlion itself and the light show from MBS! In fact, I would say it's better to visit this part of the city at night rather than in the day (less crowds too).
In fact, now I really admire my friends in Singapore because the Covid situation is under control there so they are still able to do staycations locally. Singapore may be a small country, but it's clean, beautiful and has a lot to offer and explore! Here's to wishing that the vaccine works and the pandemic can end soon so that we can all travel again!
You can always plan your vacation or staycation easily with Traveloka! Check out their new promotion with Singapore Rediscovers Vouchers.
