Tech/ Gaming/ Event: Yoodo Sponsors Malaysia’s First Official PUBG MOBILE National Championship

Yoodo, Malaysia's first truly customisable digital mobile service just announced that it is the Official Digital Telco for Malaysia's First Official Player Unknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) MOBILE National Championship (PMNC) organised by PUBG Corporation and Tencent Games.

I was invited for a short Q&A session with Mr Chow Tuck Mun, Head of Yoodo, and was personally introduced to this new telco that was just launched in January 2018. I must say, I am very impressed that we finally have a customisable digital mobile service where we can register and pay for mobile services online! Yoodo has taken the right step in working with one of the biggest gaming companies and this sponsorship is great news for gamers as the brand plans on getting into gaming in a major way.

The move to sponsor the tournament of this highly coveted mobile game is a clear message of the brand's confidence in its streaming speed and strength. Tuck Mun added that gaming will be one of the important lifestyle areas of focus for Yoodo next year and users can expect a stream of add-ons, features and activities, including being the first in Malaysia to introduce PUBG MOBILE add-on as part of their mobile data plan!

PUBG MOBILE is highly popular among gamers and the First Official MOBILE National Champuonship will see close to 256 teams from all across Malaysia competing for the whopping RM 60,000 total prize pool. Grand Prize winners will also walk away with a free 1-year mobile plan from Yoodo!

I got to experience first-hand yesterday how an e-sports tournament is like. The first qualifying round was held at Paradigm Mall, JB on 22nd December 2018. E-Sports is so popular in Malaysia now that the sign-ups for this tournament received overwhelming response in just 2 days. Some teams who did not get to sign up even turned up at the qualifying round in hopes that they could still join in any of the 64 registered teams got disqualified XD

The PNMC tournament qualifiers started on 22nd December in Johor Bahru, and will turn to Sabah on 25th December, Sarawak on 6th January and Kuala Lumpur on 12th January where gamers will vie for the chance to showcase their talents on a national level at the grand finale on 26th January in Sunway Velocity Mall, Kuala Lumpur.
